Lords of the League Rules 2024

1.0 - Hero/RPG Elements

  1. Character Creation

    1. Each manager will choose one race and one path for their hero upon creation. Each hero will start with 10 gold, 0 Experience (XP), and 0 Ability Points (AP).
    2. Your path will serve as your apprenticeship and will dictate what classes you will have access to. You will complete your apprenticeship, achieve level 1, and choose a class upon gaining 5 experience (XP) or completing a season - whichever happens first.
    3. Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will choose from available classes. You will also gain +1 to the accompanying stat for completing your apprenticeship. You may continue to use your path skill after picking a class.
    4. An owner may assign a new character during the off-season at their commissioner's discretion. This could be due to the current owner wanting a new character or the ownership changing. By default, the hero will start with the standard gold, experience, and ability points. Commissioners will have the ability to assign gold and experience as they see fit (rollover and/or new owner incentive).
  2. Experience/Leveling Up

    1. Your character will gain 1XP for each matchup win against an equal or lower level opponent. You will gain an additional XP for each level your opponent is higher than you. For example, if you are level 2 and you beat someone who is level 4, you will gain 3XP (1 + (4-2)). Gold and XP are ONLY awarded during the regular season.
    2. At level 1, 3, and 5 you will gain a new class skill/ability.
    3. At levels 2 and 4, you will be able to add a +1 to the stat of your choice.
    4. There may be additional ways to earn XP such as quests or commissioner discretion.
    5. Levels are attained at the following thresholds:
      • Level 1 - 5XP or 1 Season
      • Level 2 - 15XP
      • Level 3 - 28XP
      • Level 4 - 45XP
      • Level 5 - 70XP
  3. Skills/Ability Points

    1. Heroes may only use one activated skill per week, provided they have enough AP, unless they have a multi-skill ability. Activated skills must be declared before the first game of the week starts.
    2. AP is regained at a rate of 1AP per week, however items and skills may increase or decrease this rate.
    3. AP only increases during the season, and characters begin with 0 AP.
    4. The maximum AP a character can have is capped based on level.
      • Level 0/Apprenticeship - 5AP
      • Level 1 - 10AP
      • Level 2 - 15AP
      • Level 3 - 20AP
      • Level 4 - 25AP
      • Level 5 - 30AP
  4. Gold

    1. Gold/FAAB is awarded for winning weekly matchups, completing quests, or from a small subset of skills. The formula for awarding gold for a matchup win is 3+((1+Y)dX) GP (gold piece), where Y is the level difference between opponents and X is the difference in score rounded down to the nearest 5 (up to 10). For example, if you beat your same level opponent by 17.53 points, you would round down to 15 and gain 3+(1+0)d3) GP, which simplifies to 3+ 1d3 GP. If you beat an opponent who was 1 level higher by 20 points, you would receive 3+(1+1)d4, or 3+2d4 gold. In the case of a tie game, no gold is awarded to either team.
    2. Gold may be used to purchase equipment and items from the armory, included in trades, or used as FAAB for free agent pickups.
  5. Equipment/Items

    1. You have access to 6 equipment slots: Head, Chest, Finger, Neck, Main Hand, and Off Hand. Unless otherwise noted, equipment may only be used in the corresponding slot. Heroes may own unequipped equipment, but they may only have 1 of each item. Equipment must be equipped before the start of the first game of the week in order to gain the benefits of the equipment.
    2. You may sell equipment and/or items back to The Armory for 25% of the marked price (rounded down to the nearest 5gp).
    3. Equipment may be traded between players unless marked "No Trade".
  6. Consumable Items

    1. One consumable item may be used each week at the same time abilities are used. A level 3+ Alchemist is an exception as they may use an unlimited amount of unique items.
    2. Unless noted otherwise, consumable items are one time use.
    3. Consumable items may be traded between players unless marked "No Trade".
  7. Rewards

    1. All matchup and skill rewards will be processed and distributed on Thursday morning after a week has been completed. For example, matchup win rewards or quest rewards for week one will be processed on Thursday morning of week 2.
    2. Quest rewards will be given at the time of their completion but can only be completed before the first game of the week starts.
  8. Quests

    1. A variety of pre-selected counting stats (e.g., pass yards, rushing first downs, total tackles) will be tracked, and heroes will be given quest items unique to those stats. For example, for every 80 passing yards you accumulate, you receive 1 Arrowhead. Your fetch tracking can be found in the "Hero Journal", but will be empty until you start collecting stats.
    2. While most counting stats are tracked in an ongoing manner and quest items are awarded whenever you hit the target, some items are awarded based on targets for a single week. These are considered rare and will not be awarded often.
    3. Quest items will be given out with other matchup rewards, typically on Thursday
    4. Quest items can be found in your "Hero Inventory".
    5. Quest Givers found in the "Town" will publicly state the items they are looking for. Once you turn them in, they are removed from your inventory, and you receive the stated reward(s). Your quest log can be found in your "Hero Journal", which details your completed quests.
    6. Quest rewards come in a variety of flavors, both in the actual reward and how much you know about the reward. Rewards can include Gold, Items, Equipment, and more, but the exact reward may not always be known ahead of time. Likewise, some quests may give you multiple rewards, a reward at random, or your choice of rewards.
    7. Quests will be available to all players before games start for the week, and players will have the opportunity to choose which quests they complete as long as they have the required items. Some items may be easier to obtain than others depending on the makeup of your team.
    8. Each quest can only be completed once.
    9. Fetch tracking will only happen during the regular season so as not to give an unfair advantage to teams with more playoff games.

2.0 Playoffs and Schedule

  1. The default is a 14 week season, with 3 rounds of playoffs.
  2. Gold and XP from matchup wins are only awarded during the regular season. Quests and skills such as Cheap Shot will still award gold/XP as appropriate.

3.0 Commissioner Responsibilities Pertaining to Gameplay

  1. Commissioner is responsible for updating FAAB on the 3rd party platform after gold is awarded.
  2. Commissioner is responsible for updating FAAB on the 3rd party platform after an item is purchased.
  3. Commissioner is responsible for updating playoff bracket as necessary.
  4. Commissioner is responsible for updating weekly matchup scores on the 3rd party platform in the playoffs.
  5. Commissioner is responsible for updating week's matchups when King's Decree is used
  6. Commissioner is responsible for enforcing some hero abilities:
    • Stopping draft for Goblin's Greenskinz Unite! ability.
    • Only Clerics are utilizing the IR slots

4.0 League Scoring/Settings

  1. Lords of the League supports both Offense only and IDP scoring.
  2. Kickers and DST are NOT supported
  3. Although LotL will work with any combination of starters and scoring, it has been balanced around specific scoring settings. Deviating from recommended scoring settings may result in imbalanced gameplay for your league.
    • Recommended Offensive Starting Positions: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, FLEX, FLEX, SUPERFLEX
    • Recommended IDP Starting Positions: 8 IDP FLEX
    • Recommended Scoring: <coming soon>
  4. Many skills scale based on the number of starters in your league, including Renown.
  5. All free agent pickups should ONLY run through waivers and be set to a minimum of $1 bid.
  6. Our stat provider may have minor discrepancies (e.g., tackles vs. assists) compared to nfl.com. While egregious mistakes will be addressed, we will generally go with what the provider has. Commissioners have the option to override individual matchup scores, but should take into account the implication of picking and choosing which corrections to make. Our stance is that the provider is the source of truth.
  7. IR spots are enabled, but may ONLY be used by Clerics. Clerics may use 1 IR spot per level (e.g., a level 4 Cleric can use up to 4 IR spots).
  8. lordsoftheleague.com is the official record and scoring location. While other platforms may be updated accordingly by your commissioner, LotL will be the source of truth.
  9. Max PF is calculated after modifiers, renown, racial abilities, and skills are used. The calculation will use the highest-scoring player after all of this is taken into account. However, it will not reassign skills that target players (such as Mirror Image) to higher-scoring players.
